The 787-9 cabin — the aircraft you are most likely to get on a US route — holds 30 seats across a compact forward cabin. Seats alternate forward- and rear-facing. This matters more than most reviews admit: rear-facing seats sit further from the aisle and feel more enclosed, forward-facing seats sit closer to the aisle with more foot-well room. Neither is objectively better, but they are noticeably different, and you choose at booking, not at the gate.

What KLM does not have is a door. Dividers rise to roughly shoulder height when seated and you are visible to the aisle throughout the flight. • Travelling solo: take a window (A or K). Rear-facing windows sit deepest into the shell and are the most private seats on the aircraft.
